Philanthropic acts of Betsy DeVos

Elizabeth DeVos simply was known as Betsy DeVos stands out as an advocate, a disruptor, and an innovator. It is impressive to know that throughout her professional life, Betsy DeVos has been fighting against barriers that block the opportunity for people to thrive in the business area, political field and also in the education sector. Betsy DeVos started the Windquest in the year 1989 with the help of her husband, David DeVos. She is the chairman of the family company dealing in clean energy technology and manufacturing. Windquest is located in Michigan and has a portfolio that is rich in various consumer goods.

Another important thing I have noted is that Betsy DeVos has been playing a major role in politics for more than thirty-five years. In her active period in politics, she has emerged four times as the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. Above this, she has taken the lead severally in political action committees, campaigns, and party organizations. She has now diverted her effort toward advancing educational choices.

Previously, she served at the position of the chairman of the charity groups such as the American Federation for Children and the philanthropy roundtable. For decades, the DeVos family has extended its philanthropic activity and has been ranked among the top conservative funders by the Koch. They have been funding organizations ranging from largest groups and companies to small ones. They fund both nationally and around the Michigan providing support also to political election-related matters. For instance, in Michigan alone, the family has donated around forty-four million dollars. By being involved in this left to right funding, they have attracted all levers of wealth.

Betsy DeVos also stands as the chairman of the family’s foundation-the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation situated in the Grand Rapids, Michigan. The foundation is known for the great support they give to the school choice in Michigan. Under this, the foundation has funded the West Michigan Aviation Academy. West Michigan Aviation Academy is a chartered high school owned by the DeVos that houses its theme in the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Moreover, they are dedicated to funding the Christian school that is at the Potter’s House. Additionally, the foundation significantly funds to the Education Freedom Fund which gives the needy children scholarships to attend private schools.

The DeVos foundation has also been supporting the AFC and the Foundation for Excellence in Education. The AFC is an affiliate of the Alliance for School Choice supported by Walton Foundation by a total of around twenty million dollars. The AFC is also a close member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and network of conservative think-tanks and choice advocacy organization. To the greater extent, DeVos has been an excellent example of top donors that press their agenda through both philanthropy and political support.
